A positive outcome...
Okay, this has been a little overdue. In my last post, I think nearly three weeks ago now, I spoke about my then upcoming second redundancy consultation meeting and how I wasn't that hopeful about outcome. Well, I'm glad and relieved to say it worked out alright in the end.
In the meeting, rather than redundancy, they made me an offer to reduce my working days from 5 to 4. I'd suggested this as a potential option I'd consider in my previous meeting but I didn't really expect anything from it, so I was actually shocked when it was on the table.
Reducing my wages by 20% would not have been a simple thing to agree to, but they also said I could go back on the Out-of-Hours rota. This essentially involves being available for P1 system issues for one night per week, and one weekend in every four for a fixed monthly amount. This would make up for my lost wages, plus a little extra. I'd stopped this previously due to stress of it, but I was doing double the amount of OOH shifts before, whereas this is more managable now.
I agreed to it and last week was my first week of this new arrangement. Fridays are now a non-working day for me so I get long weekends every week. And my wife also gets every other Friday off due to her flexible hours so I get more time to spend with her!
So after all of the stress over the past couple of months where I was thinking I wouldn't have a job by the end of this process and not knowing what I was going to do, I now have reduced hours for basically same money, albeit with a little extra responsibility. I'm wondering how have I ended up coming out on top?
